How to Write Killer Title Tags:
Without the right title tag your website could be doomed. Here's how to create the perfect title tag for your website. First, your keywords MUST be included in your title tag or else you're fighting a losing battle. This is partly because all of the search engines look at your title tag and consider it to be the most important description of what your site is about. All search engines consider title-tag text when determining the search engine rankings for your keywords. You probably already know this, but let's start from the very beginning. A title tag is the text you place between the <title> and </title>. In your HTML editor your title tag would look like this: <title>Your title tag text</title> Here are the basic title tag rules (in no particular order - they're ALL important): 1. Use a maximum of 70 characters (including spaces). 2. Place your most important keywords first and it's allowable to use a keyword two times such as: golf shirts - golf shoes. 3. Create a unique and descriptive title tag for each page. After all, each page of your website is different. 4. Upper case and lower case doesn't matter in title tags. Use what makes sense. 5. Place your keywords in the order they are most likely to be used in a search. 6. Consider using both the singular and the plural versions of your keywords if they are both expected to be used in searches. 7. Don't just list your keywords. Your title tag should be as descriptive as possible. It doesn't have to be a grammatically correct sentence, but it should make sense and be descriptive for your potential visitors. After reading your title tag a visitor should really want to go to your website. 8. Your title tag doesn't always have to use the maximum number of characters. Sometimes short title tags get better results than longer title tags. 9. Don't use your company name in your title tag (unless you expect people to search for your company name). Follow the above rules and spent a LOT of time writing your title tags and you will have "Killer Title Tags" that will give you high rankings for your keywords. Jerry Minchey Copyright 2003 - 2004
