My 7 "Once Upon A Time" rules for search engine optimized web page design.

Most good children's stories starts with the phrase "Once Upon A Time." This is a good way for you to remember the basics of how to start designing your web pages.

To design web pages that are optimized for search engines, the placement of your keywords is one of the first things you should consider.

Here are my 7 "Once Upon A Time" rules:

Use your keywords:

  • Once in your html title tag.
  • Once in most h1, h2, h3 headings.
  • Once in your html description tag.
  • Once (or more)in bold (but not the first time you use it).
  • Once in italic, but again, not the first time you use it.
  • Once in the first 25 words.
  • Once (maybe) in your URL.

Of course, there's a lot more to designing a good search engine optimized web page than this, but you would be surprised at how many people overlook these basic rules.

How about your web pages?
