If something only halfway needs to be done, only halfway do it.
Yes, this goes against conventional wisdom and teachings. We've had people tell us all of our lives, "Give it your best effort" or "Always do your best." Is there's a better way? I remember a high school teacher once said to my class, "Whatever you do, do it right and do the best you can. Even if you are going to play hooky from school, do it right." My grandmother used to tell me to sweep the the leaves off of the front porch and then when I didn't do a good job, she would say, "You gave it a lick and a promise." Which meant that I hit a lick at the work and promised to do better the next time. (Maybe I started at an early age of only halfway doing the things I though only halfway needed to be done.) Here are two examplesThink about this, if you are going to bake cup cakes for the bridge club, you will probably want to do your best. If they stick to the pan, you will probably bake another batch. But if you are baking cup cakes as refreshments for the weekly Cub Scout meeting and they stick to the pan, you can cover them up with more icing and the Cub Scouts won't know or care. This is an example of only halfway doing what only halfway needs done. Here's another example. If your car needs to be washed, consider just giving it "a lick and a promise." Does it really need your best effort. How does this apply to Search Engines?
We all know that more incoming links will increase our Google PageRank, but it takes time to get those incoming links. If you only halfway do the things that only halfway need to be done, you will free up a LOT of time for getting those incoming links and doing a lot of other important things.Go against conventional wisdom and only halfway do the things that only halfway need to be done.Jerry Minchey Copyright 2003 - 2004
