How to avoid the one BIG mistake people make when submitting to Directories.
Most people try to submit their website to a directory during a TV commercial. Maybe it's not that bad, but we all tend to rush through the process. After all, submitting your website to one of the directories is really a simple process.
The problem people make (I know, I've done it more than once) is that they don't spend enough time finding out which category they should be in.
Getting listed in DMOZ (one of the free and most important directories) now takes from one to six months or longer. If you submit your site to the wrong category, you will wait several months just to find out that your site was rejected because you submitted it to the wrong category. Then you have to resubmit and go back to the bottom of the stack again.
Take the steps below before you select the directory category to submit your site to:
1. Take the time to look at all of the categories you think you MIGHT belong in.
2. Look at your competition. What category are they listed in? This is usually a good clue, but not always.
3. You may even find some of your competition in different categories. Look to see if you can see why. Maybe they shouldn't be there. Just because a previous editor allowed a site to go into the wrong category doesn't mean that the present editor will allow it.
4. Always look at several of the sites that are listed in the category you're submitting your site to. Does your website fit in with this group?
Having your web site listed in the directories will increase your PageRank and will also bring a lot of traffic to your site. Take the time to do it right so you can get your website listed as soon as possible. Jerry Minchey Copyright 2003 - 2004
