Here's the one small change to your website that will constantly get you incoming links . . . and with no effort on your part.
It's simple, add a "Link to Us" page to your website with information on WHY someone should link to your site and provide step-by-step instructions on HOW to link to your site. The number of incoming links to SearchEngineU.com recently went up form 136 to 469 and the PageRank went up from PR=5 to PR=6. This increase was due in a large part to having the right kind of "Link to Us" page. Most people don't really know how to link to another website even if they wanted to. So, provide a simple cut-and-paste linking procedure with the link anchor text you want them to use (or ALT tag text if you are using a graphic link). The most important thing in this whole procedure is that you have to convince them that it is in their best interest to link to your site. To see how I do this on www.SearchEngineU.com, go to my Link to Us page. Notice that I explain both WHY and HOW someone should link to my site. I explain why it's in their best interest to link to my site and I give them two easy ways to do the linking. You are welcome to copy this format and information for your site. (Of course, change the words to explain why they should link to your site and make the links go to your site or else I will get all of your links.) Your "Link to Us" page also gives you another link back to your Home page. Remember, Google counts ALL incoming links (even internal links) when determining your PageRank. One other advantage to having a "Link to Us" page is that when you are proposing to swap links with someone, you can point them to your "Link to Us" page rather than explaining things every time. Your website is NOT complete if you don't have a "Link to Us" page. Why not create and add this page to your site now. You might have some new incoming links when you wake up tomorrow.
