Many "tested" search engine optimization theories are wrong. Here's why.
The Internet is swamped with theories and opinions about how to get ranked at the top of the search engines. How do you know whom to believe? The best way is to follow information supported by tests and actual data. But you have to be careful of so-called "tests." For example, I see a lot of "gurus" saying that the top ten sites do "whatever" and therefore that is what you must do to get ranked high. Sounds like good advice, but let's dig a little deeper.I could say that the top ten websites showing up in the search engines for most keyword phrases all have a domain name that starts with a letter from the first half of the alphabet. Therefore, you should always pick a domain name that starts with a letter from the first half of the alphabet if you want to rank high. After all, it's been "proven" to be "true."What's missing is that if you check the sites showing up from #1001 through #1010 in a search for a keyword, you'll find that they also have a domain name that starts with a letter in the first half of the alphabet. Be very careful when someone "proves" a theory by saying that the websites that show up in the top of the searches do "whatever" and therefore it must be the right way to do it. Maybe it's because I am an engineer, but at www.SearchEngineU.com I always strive to tell you how to get ranked high on the search engines based on scientific tests that are truly valid. If I do give you a theory, I clearly point out that it is a theory and I show you what facts I have to back that theory. Be careful when someone gives you an "opinion" about a new search engine optimization technique. After all, you know what they say about opinions.
