The above headline is not what's important. (I don't even know if it's true.) Here's what's important:

When you are typing a sentence in Microsoft Word you have probably notice the "auto correct" feature. For example: if you type "yuo" and a space, the auto correct feature will correct it to read "you" which is what it "knew" you meant. You can turn this auto-correct feature off, but most of us need it.

Your brain has an auto correct feature also. It sometimes corrects typos for you and what your eyes see is NOT what your conscience brain thinks you saw. Most of the time this is good, except when you are trying to proof read something.

For example: Did you see a typo in the headline on this page? It said, "... better that ..." when it should have said, "... better than ..." Did you catch that typo or did the auto-correct feature in your brain correct it for you without you ever knowing there was a typo.

Since you didn't write it, maybe you caught it. It's always easier to catch errors that someone else wrote. That's why it's good to have someone proof the things you write.

There's one way that helps turn off the auto-correct feature in your brain.

It's easy and simple. Read the material aloud and read it slowly.
